On Sunday March 15th, 1992 The University Community Christian Church (University) held its first service, in the former chapel of Martin University located at 2171 Avondale Place. University was allowed to use the building for minimal rent thanks to the kindness of Father Boniface Hardin, the founder and former president of Martin University. The church was founded and presided over by the late Dr. William W. Hannah whom we affectionately called ‘Doc’.  Read more.

Our founder, Dr. William W. Hannah, whom we affectionately called ‘Doc’ was a mentor, professor, and community activist. He and Father Boniface Hardin, the President of Martin University, were the best of friends. Together they created the Urban Ministry program in 1991 designed to train and educate lay persons in Social Crisis Ministry. 

Our former worship chapter was adjacent to Martin University which is why Dr. Hannah added the word 'University' to complete the name of the church when he started the harvest in 1992. He had only six laborers (church members), including his wife Sherin Hannah. Read more.
